Candy Corn

The History

The Candy corn’s origin is not so clear but it seems to have come out around the 1880s. It was made along with another candy you may recognize, the candy pumpkin! The candy corn was made alongside the candy pumpkin, turnip, chestnut, and other similar agricultural products. They were marketed towards  the children that lived on farms. At the time farmers made up about half of the American laborer. It was originally called “Chicken Feed” because also at the time people did not consider corn food for people. Because of this corn was good for feeding pigs, or chickens and so corn was also cheap, but during world war 1 people had to use corn much more because it was a lot cheaper. As a result, candy corn was also cheap. Children could buy a bulk for not so much money as the other candy at the time.
